Member Stats: November 2022

Having worked with committees, volunteers, and the Board of Directors for more than I year, I think these numbers are a pretty good representation of our members. As we have suspected, we truly represent the SMB - small and medium business - market.

One of the most common questions we get – and we expect to get more often – is about our membership: Who do we represent. Well, if we start with people who are registered on our web site, we’ve got some information to answer who you are.

When members register at nsitsp.org, we ask them to fill out a simple form with basic information. Here are the results. In all, 461 people filled out the form. Not everyone answered very question.

In all, we have members from fifteen countries in addition to the United States. Within the US, we are represented in forty-six states. Clearly, we need to build out to all the states and then have a major nationwide push for new members.

Now for some specifics. 76% of our members identify themselves as MSPs.

Twenty-six percent of our members are one-person shops. Thirty-two percent have 2-4 employees; sixteen percent have 5-9 employees; twelve percent have 10-19 employees; six percent have 20-49 employees; and five percent have 50 or more employees.

With regard to revenue, twenty-two percent bring in $100,000 or less. Another thirty-three percent report revenue of $101k-$500k; fifteen percent report revenue up to $1 Million and sixteen percent report over one million up to $3 Million. Five percent report over three million up to $5 Million range; and three percent are in each of the ranges up to $10 Million and over $10 Million.

Finally, we asked how many end-user clients you have. Seventeen percent of members serve fewer than ten client companies; twenty-four percent serve 10-24 clients; twenty-one percent serve 25-49 clients; seventeen percent serve 50-99 clients; and eighteen percent serve 100 or more clients.

Having worked with committees, volunteers, and the Board of Directors for more than I year, I think these numbers are a pretty good representation of our members. As we have suspected, we truly represent the SMB – small and medium business – market.

Our next big mission is to grow our membership to at least TEN TIMES these numbers. We have made an amazing foothold in just sixteen months. But if we are to represent the entire IT Service Provider industry, we need to be much larger than this.

We need stronger representation among vendors, and among ITSPs who do not define themselves as MSP. We want to represent the entire IT services industry – and that’s a lot broader than we are now.

Stay tuned. But be prepared for a major push. Please remember to mention the NSITSP at all professional meetings, peer groups, and local meetups. We all need each other to make this organization (more) successful, and to say that we truly do represent the entire profession.
