Notes - COE Meeting 9/19 Present: James Riley Amy Babinchak Karl Palachuk Rayanne Buchianico Jason Gobbel Keith Nelson Heather Johnson Jeff Grenier Rayanne moderated the meeting and led the discussion. Quesions Discussed - Should this taskforce continue? General agreement is that it comes to an end. - Keith noted that we need to continue through the vetting process (6 mo?) - There will be a future Ethics review We seem to agree - The work isn't done when COE is done - Need a future Ethics committee or board or something. But this taskforce will have a defininite conclusion. Seems like there will be a future code of conduct. - This is not the time to start on that. - Eventually, we'll need an appeals process. - Ethics panel should not be authorized to take action. They recommend actions to the board. (James) - After we've built the COE one piece at a time, we need to review the document as a whole. (Rayanne) - It's too early to start discussing enforcement and corrective action. General agreement: - This body will finish the statements of Code of Ethics - Once the taskforce puts all the pieces together, we'll step back and look at the CoE as a whole and make sure all the pieces fit together and that they represent what we had intended when we came up with it - The CoE then goes to the board, who can discuss it amongst themselves - Eventually they'll take it to the membership. This taskforce should be available to answer member questions. - After a period of perhaps six months, the Board will ask for more feedback and may either ask this taskforce for changes, or will declare us done with our duties. - Code of conduct is for another day (another group) I believe general agreement: - The ethics committee should not be authorized to take action. They merely they recommend action to the board. Or they fact-find and state the fact. Consider the process more of giving guidance rather being punitive. This task force will not have a future role. This task force will recommend that there be some other body created to play the role of determining how the code of ethics is implemented. The board could come back and ask this Taskforce to do more, or to disband.
