Candidate Statement
Candidate Prompt:
Please tell us why you wish to serve in this office. You may include actions you wish to promote, or anything you would like members to know. Limit 500 words.
It has been a wish of mine for years that our industry be regulated in some way so that anyone with a computer and desire would not be able to call themselves a computer tech, IT Service Provider, or MSP. I see industries, like electrical workers, and how they are licensed by local governments and have local unions – should our industry have something similar? I believe that technicians should have to go through an apprenticeship program before they can become a licensed IT Service Provider under the guidance of already established IT Service Provider. We as an organization should set the standards for quality, professionalism, and security that these IT Service Providers must live up to in order to maintain their status as IT Service Providers. There should be regular accountability for these IT Service Providers to assure compliance with these standards through oversight, reporting, and / or testing. I hope to make this industry one that people rely upon and expect the best from because we deliver.
Relevant Experience
Candidate Prompt:
Please describe your relevant experience – what you bring to the office. Limit 500 words.
My experience includes: student government training in high school, starting two IT Service Provider companies (one from the ashes of another and one from scratch in a different state), running a parenting class, being elected as a deacon in my local church, and consulting with several other local IT Service Providers on how to move from break / fix to MSP.
